Healing is a slow process........A Reflection

Healing is a very slow process, you just have to believe as you take each step......

There will be relapses....

There will be somedays ...you feel bright and beautiful....

There will be some days...when the hollow feeling in your heart....

And you may want to cry yourself to sleep....

but as you take each step, you need to have FAITH....

FAITH even as small as a mustard seed....

Can make you move mountains.....

Gratitude to all who were part of this journey...& who still are.....

Friends, Strangers, Mentors, the Ola Drivers, my students, even BalaPerippa who probably was a catalyst...

To any woman, to any soul.....

THERE IS STRENGTH, WITHIN THE HEART REVEALING THE DIVINE CAPACITY OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT....

LOOK DEEP WITHIN & YOU WILL FIND THE STRENGTH.......

"ALL POWER IS WITHIN YOU. BELIEVE IN THAT, DO NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE WEAK, STAND UP AND EXPRESS THE DIVINITY WITHIN YOU....." - Swami Vivekananda

Uttarabhadrapada Nakshatra

Full Moon in Uttarabhadrada Nakshatra and Revati

Today on the 6th October 2025 is the Sharad Purnima. The day is celebrated as Kojagiri Purnima and the Ras Leela is said to have taken place on this day.

As I was pondering on the shakti of the Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra - Varshaayita Shakti — The Power to Bring Rain / Nourishment.

I am reminded of the Chakora birds 🐦 which await the, moonlight 🌙 light as the source of nectar. I'm reminded of the lines from Priyae Charusheelae - "
sphurad adhara-sīdhave tava vadana-candramā
rocayatu locana-cakoraṃ ||1||"

Where Krishna pleads with Radha, to see Radha's moon like face, as delightful like moonlight for the Chakora bird that waits patiently....

Interestingly, on this day the skies were absolutely so clear radiating the warm lights of the moon.

Yet on the previous day on satabishek nakshatra is rained 🌧  so heavily... I had interestingly gone outside and by the time I had come home, I was all drenched.

Coming to Uttarabhadrada Nakshatra, I'm reminded of the formation of pearls.

Formation of a pearl inside an oyster is thought to occur because of foreign material inside the body of the oyster. To save itself from the undesired material the mollusk coats the object with layers of nacre. It takes many years for a mollusk to produce a pearl of substantial size. The process through which the pearls are formed inside the body of the mollusk is very delicate, and a little disturbance at any stage of development of a pearl can influence its shape and luster. The finest pearl is that which has no foreign matter in its core. There is a common belief that when Swati Nakshatra rain comes to earth it produces pearl in pearl oysters. The mollusk is then said to open its mouth to receive the first raindrops. The pearls thus produced by the raindrops of Swati Nakshatra are the finest and have no foreign matter in them.
(Source - https://www.gemstoneuniverse.com/pearl-gemstone.html)

Though the formation of pearls as per the above source is linked mainly to Swati Nakshatra, Shravan and Pushya. I was pondering on the sign of Uttarabhadrapada.

🌕 1. Sharad Purnima – The Night of Divine Nectar

According to the Bhāgavata Purāṇa (10th Skandha, chapters 29–33),
on this bright full moon night of the month of Ashwin,
Lord Kṛṣṇa played His flute (Venu-nāda), calling the Gopīs to the Yamunā’s sandy banks under the shining silver moonlight.

That was Śarad Pūrṇimā — the night when:

The Moon is full, the air is cool and pure, and the rasa (divine essence) pervades all creation.

It is said that on this night:

The Moon showers Amṛta — celestial nectar — symbolizing divine bliss (rasa).

Kṛṣṇa, the embodiment of that bliss, manifests His infinite forms to dance with each Gopī — one with every heart.

Thus, the Rāsa Krīḍā is not a physical dance, but a cosmic revelation of unity between the individual soul (Gopī) and the Supreme Soul (Kṛṣṇa).

🌸 2. The Word “Rasa” – Its Double Meaning

In Sanskrit, Rasa means:

Essence, nectar, flavor, emotion, or divine joy.

In Vedanta and Bhakti, it is the spiritual taste of love between God and devotee.

On Sharad Purnima:

The Moonlight (Chandrarasa) is the outer nectar — Amṛta raining from the heavens.

The Rāsa dance is the inner nectar — Premarasa, the taste of divine love.

So, Rāsa Krīḍā = The Dance of Divine Rasa, when outer and inner nectar become one.
This is why the night is called “Amrita Varshini” — the night when nectar rains.

🐍 3. Link to Uttarabhadrapada Shakti

Now, let’s connect this with Uttarabhadrapada Nakshatra’s Shakti:

Varshaayita Shakti — The Power to Bring Rain / Nourishment

During Sharad Purnima, the Moon literally “rains nectar” — Varsha of Amrita.
In a subtle sense, Ahirbudhnya, the serpent of the deep waters, represents the Kundalini energy rising — the union of Śakti and Śiva — just like Kṛṣṇa and the Gopīs uniting in bliss.

So the inner Rāsa Krīḍā happens in the deep heart (Hridaya Guha) — the inner ocean of Uttarabhadrapada.
It’s the yogic rasa, where the soul merges in the still joy of the Self.

Uttarabhadrapada Rasa Krīḍā = Mystical Union
The “dance” happens inside, in meditation and devotion — the soul dances with the Divine.

In Tantra and Yoga, Rāsa Krīḍā is also symbolic of:

The union of Śiva (pure consciousness) and Śakti (creative energy) within the body.

The awakening of the Kundalini serpent (Ahirbudhnya) through love and surrender.

During Sharad Purnima, when the Moon is brightest:

The Ida and Pingala nadis (lunar and solar channels) balance.

The nectar of Soma descends from the Sahasrāra (crown chakra).

The inner consciousness experiences Rasa, the sweetness of union.

That is the inner Rāsa Līlā — the dance of energy and consciousness in perfect harmony.

🪔 6. Essence of the Mystery

🌕 Sharad Purnima = Rasa descending from the heavens
💧 Uttarabhadrapada = Rain from the ocean of consciousness
💃 Ashwini = The dance of divine vitality in the heart

So:

When Sharad Purnima falls in Uttarabhadrapada, it represents inner union, the silent bliss of realization.

When it falls in Ashwini, it represents outer union, the playful dance of life and love.

Both express the same eternal truth:

“The soul and the Divine are never separate — they dance as one, within and without.”

Prana Sanginire Kali Mu ki Laje Budili (Posted on Vaikunta Ekadasi - 23 December 2023)

I first saw this song, being performed in Odissi by Arushi Mudgal in 2013. I was smitten by the beauty and simplicity of the lyrics & of Maha Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's choregraphy

Background of Song:
Radha, recounts to her friend, of how Krishna had visited her, in the disguise of a lady to apply alta to her feet. Radha is mesmerized by her beauty and questions that she has not seen a beutiful girl like her in the village. Krishna, wittingly, inscribes his name on the sole of her feet. Radha, rebukes her for doing so. All of a sudden, it is revealed that it is Krishna in disguise. Radha overtaken by shame, pleads to let go of her feet.

Resemblance to Geeta Govinda

In the Ashtapadi - Priya Charusheelae, Krishna - asks Radha to place her feet on his head, an an antidote to the poison of love that has overtaken him.

Translation:

Translation : (Radha speaking to her friend)
Friend, how I died of shame the other day!
without you, I erred in each step
unable to comprehend. /refrain/

Shyāma, in the guise of a lady
entered my palace
He said "Come, come,
I'll paint you with alatā*". /1/

Listening to his sweet voice
I could not resist the invitation
And so I wore a small piece
of cloth (so her feet can be painted) / 2/

I went and said "Stop (beautician!)"
And went to him.
What was there to create doubt,
tell me? /3/
He is adept in many arts;
And so he painted my feet deftly
and under the sole
he wrote "Shyāma, Shyāma." /4/

(I saw it) Then I rebuked him
and my heart beat fast
(guilty of having written Krishna's name below her feet)
Then, he held my feet
and refused to let go. /5/

When his deceit was caught
I found no sign of him around.
Banamāli (=poet) wishes to be
a bee at the feet of that trickster. /6/

*alatā is a red pigment that women apply on their feet and hands, in various designs during festivities.

This episode is one of the various guises of Krishna in Odia folklore where he devises multiple ways to placate an annoyed Radha.

Prerna - DD Telefilm subtitles

English Commentary (Contributed by Harshit Misra)

Take this, take! This will help you. She doesn’t take. I have not seen any beggar like her.
O hello sir! Did you want to give something to her?
Yes. But she didn’t take and came after me.
Daily this happens with someone. She’s not a beggar. She’s a devi, just like the Apsaras in this premises. I
don’t know what kind of penance is she doing.
Who’s she?
Leave it sir!
Go and visit the temple.
Oh tell me!
Have you heard the name of Guru Ganesh Shastri?
Yes! Why not I have been a big fan of him.
She’s his daughter. Long time ago when she came here , she looked like a goddess. She was very
beautiful. She did an amazing dance.
But how did she get to this condition?
It is a very sad story sir! I don’t want to hurt you by sharing that story. Go visit the temple
No! I want to hear. Tell me please.
The family of Ganesh Shastry have been traditional dancers. Ganesh Shastry did not have a son.
Therefore, he wanted to teach his daughter as per his Gharana.
Dadhi, come have food.
No I am not hungry.
Not hungry. Come have food!
I am not hungry. You have food.
There is a father who is roaming around and the daughter is lost in her thoughts. Go don’t eat.
Rati! You have been sitting like this since morning. What is going on?
You know dada! Its been four days. I am worried about father.
O daughter! You father has gone to Khajuraho! That is tapasya. No Rishi gives up his Tapasya!
Dada! See father has come!
I’ll not talk to you now! You stay away from home for so many days. Does it behove to stay like this?
I don’t like it! But there are few things that have to be done. Come!
Father tell me something about Khajuraho!
Khajuraho! There are many anecdotes about it. But one is famous – very beautiful. Listen! There was a
king Chadravarman and his mother Hemavati. They say she was very beautiful, but she was a child
widow. One night she was bathing in a Kamal Jheel (Lotus Lake). Chandradev got attracted and he came
to earth and did a Gandharva Vivah with her. When he was about to leave, Hemavati asked, that if there
is a consequence of our meet, people will call me tainted.
--Dance performance
Chandradeva said that you go to Vindhyachal Parvata and there is a place at the banks of Karnavati river,
you’ll beget a child. He will be a great ruler and construct temples. The place will be named as
Khanjanpura. This village came to be known as Khajuraho. Oh! You slept! You slept listening to the story!
Sleep!
Next Day!
Dada! Dada! What is this?
Rati! What have you brought?
What is this?
This is an Apsara! Just like you. One of the Khajuraho Apsaras.
Are the Khajuraho Apsaras like this?
See this. This is a brilliant specimen of sculpture. If someone studies the idols of Khujaraho or the dance
positions in these idols closely, he/she can become a great dancer. The god has made the sculptor. But it
seems like that God himself gave his hands to sculptors. And the sculpture of Khujaraho were made with
these hands. I pay my salutations to those anonymous scultors.
Baba! I’ll also go to Khajuraho!
You should definitely! But not now! Go when you become a great dancer. There you have to perform in
front of great connoisseurs and that will be your examination.
I am ready to take this exam. I’ll follow whatever you say.
If so, my dream will definitely be realized.Go get my Pakhavaj!
Shut this off! You roam all around all the time. Are you not worried about the marriage of Rati? She’s
already 18.
Sister! She’s a boy. She’ll carry our lineage.
Brother! If you talk like you’ll face a lot of issues in her marriage.
Sister! You don’t worry about her! I’ll take care! I’ll make her something. The heritage given by our
ancestors will be carried on by her. In her veins lie great passion. Definitely, she’ll become a great
dancer.
Dance performance
Friend! One day I’ll also go to Khajuraho! Then you’ll see how well I can dance like you.
Dance practice
Rati! How many times I have told you, that don’t bow in front of me. Bow to the earth. We tap our feet
on the earth. And bow to seek forgiveness. The earth gives us energy. Dance is there in your veins, but
only the one who is disciplined is an artist. Once again!
Dance practice
Rati! See , lift your elbow. The expression of your face Mudras..very nice..! great!
Dance performance
Claps
Well done ! Long live daughter! Daughter, this Shivratri, I’ll definitely take you the Khajuraho festival.
(Background); If someone studies the idols of Khujaraho or the dance positions in these idols closely,
he/she can become a great dancer.
Come daughter! Let’s go the stage where you have to perform tonight. Come!
Coming Baba!
Come! Take off you sleepers. Before stepping on the stage, one should do pay obeisance to that stage.
This is the platform where you have to present your art. Thousands of eyes will be focused on you.
There will be less people who’ll applaud and more critics. I have given you the training. You have to be
on the mark. Best wishes!
Gururbrahma shloka!
Do rest of your Sringaar.
Dance performance
Thinking : Friend! One day I’ll also go to Khajuraho! Then you’ll see how well I can dance like you.
Rati – Rati Rati Rati! Where are you? Rati Rati Rati Rati call!
Daughter Rati! Who are you searcing for ? Apsara? You’re late. There were many Apsaras like you,
designed over many years. Therefore, when they break, the Sanskriti and Sabhyata also fall apart. But,
this is all done by humans! Daughter! if someone puts a blemish on your beautiful face then? Ultimately,
I will have to end up as a debris. Now you tell me! Are we stones, or the people?
Rati! You are here? I searched for you everywhere! Everyone is asking about you! Daughter! Do you
know you have become a great dancer! Yes, a great dancer! Daughter! Why are you not speaking? What
happened to you? You have made the dream of your father true! Why are you not speaking? Why are
you not speaking!
English commentary!
And since that day, Rati got mentally retarded. Ganpaty Shastry could not bear this pain and he passed
away. Since then, this Apsara tries to search for Hemavati or herself among these broken sculptures. Go
visit the temple! It is late evening. Come ma! It is time to close the temple. Come!
