I personally started delving into romantic litereature, with chaste readings. Unfortunately, most consider romantic reading far from serious literature. Further to that, popular discussion on romantic readings are much confined to the genre of dark erotica, like the '50 shades'.
Yet, genres within romance, have to lot to offer to many situations we face at this juncture.
For instance within the the Indian Classics, Kalidasa is known for his works on Meghadutam, Shakuntalam, Rtusamharam etc. While the background of the novel is around the theme of pining for love, desire etc. somewhere between the lines are profound messages of the inter-connectivilty between nature and human love.
It is with this in mind, does one need to explore the genre of romantic literature.
My exposure to contemporary English readings and writers, as well as Tamil and Sanskrit literature, I find, the west is shaping evolved characters and experiences as opposed to even Tamil writers. However that's just my opinion.
Looking forward to a wonderful 2024 as we go about our search for love, ecstacy and bliss.....
Radhe Krishna!
